POND – series of modular glass mirrors

Pictures: Iida Pii

My masters thesis production is a collection of five modular glass mirrors. Mirror plates are attached to wooden frame with decorative glass headed nails, a technique borrowed from Murano mirrors. Mirrors can be composed multiple ways and styles by variation of separate glass ornaments and glass nails.

By naming these artefacts as ‘Roomjewelry’ I am proposing an idea of blending categorization. By thinking of my mirrors as jewelry, I am trying to pursue freedom of expression over what is something made for and how it should be seen. Jewelries are something to cherish from generations to generation, something to give as a gift as a symbol of care, these kind of values I want to attach to my objects by naming them as jewelry.
